Profile

Vivian Riches is a colourist and painter of vibrant, loose, contemporary landscapes and woodlands inspired by her natural surroundings and the Kent countryside where she now lives.  In the early 80s, Vivian studied for
a Degree in Textile Design and her work still tends to contain an element of design and pattern.

Working initially in watercolour and acrylics, Vivian now paints in oils with the addition of cold wax. Building up layers to create depth and exciting textural effects, she works intuitively, allowing the painting to evolve as she goes along.   Her main focus is on light, colour and atmospheric perspective, with her aim being to draw the viewer into the painting and even, perhaps, imagine they are actually there.
