Marcel Gatteaux studied drawing and painting from an early age and following a foundation year at Camberwell Art School, he trained as a picture restorer in studios over Piccadilly Arcade. Throughout this time he continued life drawing and painting and landscape painting became the dominant theme of his work.
“Since travelling to Provence for the first time in 1991, I have been captivated by the light and colour of the Mediterranean region. When my paintings started to sell in that year I devoted my time to painting and have continued to travel frequently to the area. I believe in John Ruskin’s dictum ‘Paint what you love, love what you paint’.”
He has been with the gallery for more than ten years.
Recent travels which have inspired new paintings include Paris, Venice and Tuscany.
