Profile

Tim is a retired soldier, mountaineer and explorer.  He has always found something to draw or paint, even on active service or on expeditions to remote parts of the world but he also likes to paint closer to home.  Over the years his work has covered most subject matter, including portraiture and still life but he is primarily a landscape painter and particularly enjoys the challenge of working outdoors in difficult weather conditions because it always seems to add something special to the painting.  Cornwall, Dorset, the Portugese seaboard and Norfolk are favourite locations and in recent years Tim’s work has concentrated on coastal scenes.

Tim has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Army Arts Society, in commercial galleries and in other venues around the UK.  For many years he chaired the Armed Forces Art Society (AFAS), the premier art society of Britsh armed forces, and in 2016 won the AFAS Contemporary Art Prize for his installation ‘Somme Games’, marking the centenary of the battle.  His work is in private collections in several countries, a municipal collection in France and in 2019 was used to illustrate pages in the Flora of East Greenland.
