We are delighted to announce a second Webbs Fine Art Gallery location in Redhill, Surrey. This second space is open by-appointment and is offering the same modern and contemporary fine art alongside specialist framing and restoration services. As an extension of our London Clapham gallery, we provide private viewings and expert advice in a relaxed setting.

Our services include bespoke framing, ready-made frames, mount cutting, canvas stretching, painting and photo restoration, reframing, framing for 3D objects, and exhibition preparation for artists. We also offer student discounts.

Collectors, artists, and visitors are welcome by appointment (including same day) — please contact us to arrange your visit.

Bio:

Caroline studied at the Corcoran Gallery School of Art in Washington DC and attended master classes in painting and drawing at The Slade School of Art in London. She works in oils, watercolours and egg tempera;

She has been an en plein air painter for most of her life, travelling all over the Middle East, India and Myanmar. She is a member of @londonpleinairgroup.

In 2003 she took up Icon Writing, studying gilding & Icon techniques in Russia, St Catherines Monastery Sinai, the Prince’s Schools and with Christabel Anderson at The Queens Galleries. But in 2020 returned full time to oil painting.

New Works by Carolyn Bates and Roger Dellar

25th September – 16th October 2021

Opening event on 25th September between 11:00am – 5:00pm

Carolyn Bates:
I aim to record the essence of what confronts my senses in the presence of nature at its most elemental. I am trying to convey, through a painterly language, a sense of place and yet evoke memories and personal interpretations in the viewer – an idea of a glimpse into a remembered reality. Sketching, taking photographs and documenting my subject and committing my observations to memory, I return to a more pared down approach back in the studio environment.

Roger Dellar ROI PS RI:
My subject matter remains as always about people and their environments, their body language, whether in bars, interiors, markets, restaurants etc, but also my interest has turned to landscape and coastal scenes, I’m at my happiest painting plein air capturing the moment.

Originally trained as a photographer, Carolyn Bates‘ career enabled her to work freelance in many areas including dance, music, sculpture, portraiture, landscape and to travel to far away corners of the world. These experiences created many exciting opportunities and commissions. As a photographer, she has always observed the quality of the light and how this plays such an important role, combined with colour, line and form in creating the mood and structure of a picture. Having decided to follow her passion further in paint, Carolyn Bates studied under Robin Child at The Lydgate Art Research Centre and Jonathan Ellis at The London Sketch Club, Chelsea.Her work reflects the continuing exploration of the natural world.

Roger Dellar works from his studio in Surrey. He has a keen interest in people and their behaviour, and is fascinated by the way the play of light transforms a subject; either working in the studio or plein air. He is a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, The Pastel Society, and The Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Since 1996 has been an active member of The Wapping Group.
